What is the differences between a Licensed Practical Nurse and a Licensed Vocational Nurse?

How can I challenge the California state boards for Licensed Vocational Nurse?

  • Hello everyone. I'm a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) and have been for twenty years (since 1991). I would like to know if anyone is aware of how I can challenge the board to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse? I've tried the community colleges, but the instructors that I've had made excelling in nursing school more difficult than it really is!! I just as soon challenge the board and avoid all of the "politics" and ethnocentrism amongst the various Registered Nurses in nursing school. I did check into this one online school, the Minnay Science Institute, but they told me that I needed to have pediatric nursing experience in order to challenge the board. Does anyone know for sure? I'd greatly appreciate any info given. Thanks!!

  • Answer:

You cannot write the NCLEX-PN exam unless you have actually graduated from an accredited LPN/LVN program. It's not "poliitcs", you have to actually have a nursing education. it doesn't matter how many years you have been a CNA, that doesn't make you a nurse.
