How does Independent study work?

How does work study work?

  • I will be transferring out of state next semester to my hometown community college. Right now financial aid pays for my education entirely but nest semester i will be considered out of state. I will need at least $1000 more to pay for my tuition. Can work study help pay for the 1000 thats left? like on top of the financial aid I already receive, will doing work study add the 1000 I need? Or does it only pay for the fafsa I will already be getting? And do you actually get paid during work study?

  • Answer:

along with your financial aid it should tell you if you qualify for work study, and for how much. for example: for me, i did not qualify for financial aid, however; i qualified for $1000 in work study. What i am doing is paying my tuition, then going to work, and get a check from that employer. (which since i already paid my tuition in full, will become mine). I would check your financial aid statues, see if you qualify, then call the financial aid office at your new school. See what kind of jobs you can get, and contact that employer about about a possible job in the spring. I for example have an off campus tutoring job, they pay me, and that goes to my tuition (if i didn't pay it already). however; I received $1000 work study for the year. which means only $500 a semester. So you might want to check at how much your getting in the semester, and if you can possibly add any work study you didn't use to your spring semester. but yes, work study can help pay your tuition. and no, work study and financial aid are two seperate things. and yes, you actually get paid.
