New Zealand scholarship question?
-
I am a year 13 student in New Zealand, and on top of the NCEA course that we have available, we also have scholarships available in most subjects. I am definitaly doing scholarship accounting, economics and statistics as they are my best subjects and i am the top in my school at those subjects. My question is, is it a good idea to also do geography scholarship. I am second in geography in my school, and am considering it. I know that my workload is going to be intense this year. I am doing five demanding subjects, and three with scholarship. Is it going to be 'sabotaging' my course if i try to do four scholarship subjects...? Note - My school set us practise exams throughout the year (5), and based on those results they determine who is top / second / third in each subject. I am not a 'cocky' bastard who is saying he is the top when he is not.

Answer:
Hey there, I graduated last year and I'm of to uni so I feel like I can tell you that whatever you plan on doing next year you're gonna look good on paper regardless of whether you add scholarship geo to the list. I think It'll be an advantage and if you can handle the workload (if you're on top in so much, it looks like you can) then go ahead cos it doesn't hurt to have an extra advantage. But obviously you don't NEED to. So it's up to you to decide - not anonymous internet people. Plus, unless it gets you a scholarship to a tertiary institution, school prizegiving doesn't matter once you're out in the real world. The main aim of NCEA is to get you to develop a good work ethic and to define good workers from people with no motivation. And remember if you do these scholarship exams that means you will have EIGHT external exams in total... Good luck with that mate =/ Just focus on atleast getting that endorsement before externals if that the case, cos no matter how top you are - you might suprise yourself and fail/do bad. I burnt myself out sooooo bad last year it took a toll on my physical health, so be sure to take care of yourself to aye =)
