  • right i dont get this at all i am english and our schooling is like in years but in america is in grades, so is for example year 10, grade 10 or is it different. we have primary school - reception, year one, and year two junior school - years three to six senior school - years 7 to 11 the we have sixth form which is an extra two years at school, but is optional. can someone tell me if it is the same in america. all i know is there is middle school and elementory??? i think help x

  • Answer:

I think a British school year would be the same as an American grade year. They like to confuse the world with college names like freshman and sophomore, but basically it is kindergarten, or some such name, then grades 1 to 5 which are elementary. Grades 6 to 8 are middle school and grades 9 to 12 are senior school. Just to make things more confusing, in Ontario, Canada it is pre-school, primary, elementary and secondary. but also kindergarten, grades 1 to 3, 4 to 8 and 9 to 12.
