What is the average age for finnish university students?

Why would some students want to go to university at an earlier age?

  • Why would some students want to go to university earlier? i'm talking like, younger than usual. For example most kids go to high school when they are graduated from high school at arounf 17 or 18. But I know a few friends of friends of mine who got into and now attend university at like age 16 and some even 15!! Why would they want to even do that? Who woulde even think of doing that? I mean I guess if they are really super smart and are sick of high school curriculum or took summer courses. But think of all the stuff they miss out on : same age friends, relatable friends, teenaged life, driving, and just being a normal teen, and missing out on sports teams, etc... Plus, everyone else in the class would be like 17-20, and everyone is older so they would feel very left out.

  • Answer:

Most students go ro college earlier because that want a bigger academic challenge. I think a parent must look at the age and the maturity of each child. The 15 or 16 year dld must be willing to demonstrate that they are mature and ready to work

Well if you think of it from their point of view, they might put less of a priority on the things you mentioned like relate-able friends, teenage life, etc. they might have the mindset that the main priority is education and such, or have that opinion to a more extreme degree than you. To many people that stuff matters to them but to them they just might simply not care, only care about school. meh, I hope I got my point across.

Although I can not speak for everyone, I will attempt to cover all bases of why someone would want to go to college early. Personally, I have never found "regular school" right for me. For the coming school year I will be attending a school that will help me finish my high school credits while earning college credits. One reason I have found this to be a great choice for me, is because I aspire to be a doctor, and with so many years of schooling, I will be two years ahead. As for the things I will "miss out on" I have same aged friends and I am a normal teenager. I have been to public schools, charter schools, and I have even been home schooled, and through these journeys I have met many wonderful people and many friends for life. I still have a "teenage life" although some people are born adults and are unable to relate to teenagers. That may be a reason they would rather leave high school early. I'm not quite sure how going to college will affect me driving, but I do have a car ready for my driving and I am studying to get my permit. A few years ago I was extremely into Tennis through a private team, but due to a wrist injury, I am now unable to play. So, there ARE ways to play sports other than school sports. I suppose I am slightly biased, but I consider myself a pretty well rounded person. Also, The program I will be attending pays for all college classes during my high school years and I only have to pay for my books. I hope this helps. Lyssa
