What career path to go?

What career path should I go into?

  • I like photography and I love digital media. I have a passion for music and a knack for technology, especially computers. My family is against me doing jobs with these because "I won't live happily with the earnings I'll be making." They want me to become a doctor, a lawyer, a business administrator, a psychologist. Anything to that liking. My sister says "Sometimes it takes hard, boring work to be satisfied in the end with a job." I don't want a job that's boring and hard all the time until it finally gets good. I want a job that's challenging and interesting that takes it to the next level and still has a great outcome. I'm in it for me, but I don't want the family to turn against me for something I love to do. It's seriously put me to the point where I'm extremely frustrated and want to stop trying. What career path should I go into? Should I care about what my family thinks? What do I do to meet their wants and my wants halfway?

  • Answer:

You shouldn't get a job you don't like, whether your friends tell you to do it, or your family, it's your decision. I would suggest the same career I am doing, which is Photojournalism. If you want excitement and a fun job this is the one for you, especially if you love photography. Your also not limited to being behind the camera, when your the one getting the story and illustrating it with photography, you can also interview people. My ambitions are in the sports area, taking those amazing still shots you see in sports, and finding interesting stories behind the athletes. Not everyone can be a photojournalist, you have to be willing to get a story at any means and in any weather conditions, and even some dangerous situations. It all depends on you, but it sounds like you would enjoy photojournalism.
