What is an expository essay?

Expository essay about homeschooling have some questions. PLEASE help?

I am writing an essay about homeschooling ( expository) essay, but I am having some problems: First, my essay should not have aby opinion in it what so ever and should be 3 pages long. Second, I am suppose to talk about the history of homeschool, the controversy, and the future. Here is my thesis: Homeschooling is made up of three essential components: the history, the cntroversy, and the future. ( I know it is kinda dry, but I really couldnt think of anything else) Now I am trying to write an intro, but I am confused as to what I should do. I thought about a statistic, but what should I put after the statistic, but before the thesis without saying everything that will be covered in my 3 page paper? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
