World events affecting education?

• My little brother is applying for a Teaching Fellows scholarship and has to write a brief essay (3-5 mins) about a current world event affecting education. Any suggestions? He wants to go into special education, but that doesn't have to be directly related to the topic he chooses to discuss. Thank you!

  A REALLY relevant one currently in debate is Britains ridiculous law to increase university tuition fees from £3000 to £9000. This is an incredible leap and unjust to all the students who wish to get a higher education. Its also horribly detrimental because it puts lower economically stable families in a horrible position, where parental personal welfare may be compromised in the face of saving money for their children to get a decent education. Furthermore, students themselves will be burdened with students loans which could actually remain for the most part of their lives. Although this is more of a national concern, high university tuition fees is a global problem preventing students from getting an education. it is only because of his new law that was passed this thursday that debates have now begun again on a global scale discussing ethical concerns about outrageously high education fees, specifically in the UK and US.
