What should I include in my portfolio?

What should I include in my teaching portfolio?

  • I am a new teacher and have an interview tomorrow which may or may not require a portfolio. Can anyone give me ideas of what categories to include in my portfolio and what/what is not important?? I really have no idea what an interviewer would be looking to see.

  • Answer:

Well the first answer was just stupid. You need to nail the interview to get the job! They won't be able to see your classroom management skills in an interview! Back when I was applying for my first teaching job, I included my resume, a statement about my philosophy of teaching, my proposed classroom management plan, my philosophy of assessment and a few sample assessments I had created, a few of my best sample lesson plans from my student teaching, copies of my recs and evaluations from student teaching, and a summary of my research project for my masters degree program. I brought it to my first interview and they were very impressed. I left my portfolio with them to look over after the interview, and arranged to pick it up the next day (an excuse for more face time with the principal). They offered me the job when I came to pick it up.

You have no need to worry about the forthcoming interview. The important thing is the behavioural attitude as well as your ability to conduct the classes in an effective manner. Wish you all success.
