Can an aeroplane get stricken by lightning? And Why?

Opinions needed from Englidh teachers, or anything closer.?

  • I'm writing an essay for AP English, and I'd like opinions on how it is. Before reading could you please read this poem, my essay is about it. http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15913 (Essay Entitled) "Wake Up, and Smell the Roses" When you see a homeless person on a street corner, you always avoid, or think lesser of them, why? In Gwendolyn Brooks’ “The Bean Eaters,” she is depicting a couple, of old age, who are “Mostly Good” people. They don’t have much. They are of the lesser thought, living in “rented back room,” with nothing to eat but beans. They may not have much, but they live life through. Taking what you have for granted is like walking on a rope bridge, it may look sturdy enough to walk across, but you will fall through the cracks. “This old yellow pair,” as described by Brooks, is an ordinary couple. Dinner’s a “casual” affair, they have a roof to cover their heads and they are good, old people that lived their days. But one thing is different; they are living in the back room of a store, riddled with everything from receipts, to tobacco crumbs; an unappealing environment to some, home to them. Why would Brooks place the couple in such a unique, but equally unlucky setting? The cause is not just feeble story-telling to make her kids want to achieve more in life, but an awakening. Look deeper, the poem shows the connections between poor, “Bean Eaters,” and middle, upper class people. We are all the same when it all boils down, rich or not. In the poem, she says the couple “keep on putting on their clothes, And putting things away.” Don’t we all do the same thing? We get up every day, put on our clothes and set off on the journey of life. Yet, with all the privileged things we have, we still complain about life. Millions of people live as this couple does, they take nothing for granted, and live life with what they have. Would I be happy with the life of these people? No. This would be the response from mostly everyone who heard the question. I am blessed with a house, a bed, and food to eat; and to speak truthfully, I would hate living in that poor of conditions. What more could a person ask for other than what they already have? Well, most people do, and that’s what creates cruel opinions towards poor, homeless, or underprivileged beings. I care for these people, have a place in my heart for them, and I don’t take anything for granted. Living, knowing, the privileges that I have is enough to give me the answer to that question. “And remembering. . .” These two words tell the whole story of their, the couple’s, past. The words tell you of the pleasant life the couple once had, living with more than what would suffice. Waking to, literally, smell the roses. They have more than the poverty stricken poor. Much like me and you, and in the same fact, they took it for granted. All of what could be the strike of a lightning bolt; it was taken away from them. Don’t take life or anything for granted . . . you may end up a Bean Eater.
