Tips on teaching a young child Spanish?

Any teaching tips on how to support an upset child in the classroom?

  • Answer:

Just try talking to the kid..? Find out what makes him/her happy! I remember when I was younger and was in elementary school, this little girl was really sad one day. (she got a bad grade on her test) Everyone knew, including the teacher, that she had this little obsession with polar bears. So during our lunch break, our teacher went out to the store and bought her a little polar bear. It may sound stupid, but it actually helped. She became the most liked teacher in that grade! haha! :D Good Luck! xx-Mary!

Other answers

A general answer regardless of age is to first take the child aside, preferably out of earshot from the other students and try to find out what is upsetting him/her. If it is a class related issue get to the root of the problem. If it is a home related issue request a conference with the parents/caregiver. If the child sees that you are genuinely interested in helping him/her with his/her problems then he/she will open up to you and you will know at least what is upsetting him. Treat all his confiding with respect. Know your limitations. It is not every problem that you can solve on your own. Know when you should seek the help of parents or an administrator. At the same time don't take every problem to the administrator.
