Should I include a link to my online portfolio in my resume?

Teaching Portfolio Content?

  • I have been an informal educator at zoos and museums and am making the transition into a formal science teacher. I have a teacher interview in a couple of weeks. I have been asked to provide a teaching portfolio with documentation that shows my teaching experience and knowledge in my content area. On average how many pages should a portfolio contain? I don't want to present an overly thick portfolio with too much information; but, at the same time I want to make sure that I have enough documentation to showcase my teaching abilities. Regarding documentation to place into the portfolio, I have been asked to at least include lesson plans and pictures, what else should I add (besides my teaching philosophy and autobiography). Some sites have suggested Professional Development Certificates, Feedback Letters from Students/Employers, sample student work, sample syllabi, transcripts, resume, a copy of teaching credentials etc). With all this information, it just seems that a portfolio would be pretty lengthy? I know I provided alot of information, but my main question would be on average how many pages is a good teaching portfolio and what items should be included in it? Additionally, how is the portfolio used by the interviewers? Do I make references to items in the portfolio for the interviewers to look at during the interview or is it something that the interviewers look at afterwards? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  • Answer:

I have a portfolio-in it- My resume My teaching philosophy and why I enjoy teaching A few letters of reference from bosses and parents of children I worked with. My school transcripts Pictures of me working with children samples of articles I've written for newsletters. Samples of art projects I have done First aide certification any awards I have gotten Anything that you think adds to someone knowing you. Once I put this together, I add to it all the time-and it's great because it's all together and now I used it all the time.
