What are psychological tests about?

What to do about my English teacher's defective vocabulary tests?

  • I'm already familiar with the words on our weekly vocabulary tests. And, I still study beforehand, just because I'm not cocky, and I want to ensure that I have a good grade. But, she makes the tests herself--they're faulty. It only has 25 questions (we have to 20 vocabulary words for each test, plus the definitions of the words on all our previous tests). Five of the questions are like the sentence completions on the SAT, except my teacher writes them, so they are sometimes vague. And, oftentimes, the vocabulary word is not the answer; it's a different word that we haven't studied but she expects us to know how to define. So, she creates the tests and the vocabulary lists herself. She doesn't give us a vocabulary worksheet; we are handed a sheet of paper that she typed up with random words that she wants us to know. The questions are vague, and none of them are multiple choice. She doesn't even use all the words from the list. So, usually on vocabulary tests, I score high A's (consistently, for several years). I'm articulate; I know how to communicate. But, her tests aren't accurate gauges of student performance or knowledge. I get low B's on them. You may say, "Oh, that's not so bad. B's aren't bad." Well, B's are generally the lowest grades I ever get. I don't get C's or D's. And, my lexicon is my strength. Seriously, vocabulary is my forte. And these vocabulary tests are weekly occurrences. If I repeatedly get B's on these, that's going to be my grade in the class. And there's no way to just "improve." I already know the definitions, synonyms, and antonyms of the words at hand. The way the test is arranged and the types of questions asked makes it seem like a different answer. It's really vague, and there's no definitive way to discern the answer my teacher is looking for (the test is written, not multiple choice).

  • Answer:

Talk to the teacher about it, and if that doesn't work..maybe to the principal or another teacher. Also find out if other students are having the same problem.
