Vocabulary activities?

Vocabulary activities for ESL students?

  • What vocabulary activities can I do with my ESL students that still incorporate the regular words? I want activities to do but cant think of any? Also, if you have spelling ideas, that would be great as well!!!

  • Answer:

I suggest you use word frequency lists as your main source of vocabulary. You can easily find the most commonly used words in the English language while googling "word frequency list." I suggest you focus on the first 1,000 words, since that will include nearly 80% of what your students will encounter in the real world. I suggest you start with 5 words per day and build on that list throughout the school year. Your students should be able to orally read the words, spell, them, and use them in a sentence. I suggest creating a Word Wall for your lists so students who constantly see them in the classroom. Be sure to review words as well. How did you get to be a teacher? There are many ESL and teaching websites that offer activities, and bookstores carry workbooks that offer the same.
