How to convince my math teacher to give me extra credit?

Will/Can my Teacher Give me Extra Credit?

  • Hiya guys! I'd like to make it clear off the bat i'm not trying to be whiny or annoying, and my current grade is fine. At the moment i have a 92.3 and I need a 92.5 to get an A. an A- is fine! it really is! But, i'm so close that i just wonder if perhaps my teacher could add just .2... a little bit to it. I work hard and he seems to like me and think i'm a good student. Do you think it's possible? My math teacher is a really nice guy, but not a pushover or anything so I'm not sure if I should bring up the topic. I don't want to beg for a free raise so ideally I'd want to do extra credit work. What should I say? Do? (There are no more tests left)

  • Answer:

No harm in asking, why not? I taught college for many years and always listened. Did not always agree but I listened and considered.

Yes it is possible. Just ask if you can do like an extra problem. I am pretty sure he wont mind

Miss Abby

He might. He might not. In my experience, he'd be a lot more likely to if you're in high school than if you're in college. But as long as you make the point that you are willing to live with the A- you have earned if the answer is no, I don't see anything wrong with asking. If you went in there insisting that you were so close that he just had to help you get the A, you'd come off as a grade-grubber, but the way you present yourself here doesn't give that impression at all, so I'm confident that you can ask in a way that will make it clear you are asking and not demanding. Good luck with it. And congratulations on the A- you already have. :)
