Can you use student loans for anything?

Can I use my student loan to buy a bicycle?

  • Hi, I'm currently a sophomore attending a state university in California. Right now, I am living with my parents' and I commute to school by car. It's not very far from here but the problem is that I drive there every day which kinda eats up my gas and thats not all. it's kinda risky driving there because there are a lot of obstacles, cars, and students roaming around. I was thinking about buying myself a fixed gear bike that is around $300-400 using student loans so I can use it to commute. Right now, I am qualified for cal grant to pay 80% of my tuition this semester. I don't really use my loans on anything except buying textbooks. Well I use around 20% of the loan money to buy books and return the rest of that money to the bank immediatley after purchase. So is it worth using student loan to buy a bicycle? I'm really looking forward to getting a bike as a personal hobby. And another thing, I don't have a job right now.

  • Answer:

You can use it to buy, as bicycles are really contributory in your journey. But you should know the fact you are using student loan to buy, so be careful to find value providing one to use. There are many student bicycle models in the market, but know about the cheap and quality product from previously used customers from your friends and relatives. All the best :)
