Where can I get a Student Loan?

  • So my idiot dad waits until the last minute to try and get me a loan. Tuition payment was due on the 4th, so now we have to pay a late fee and I have to have it in by the 17th, or else they cancel my schedule. I'm going to county college, so it's not a lot. But I wanted to get a loan for all 4 semesters now, so I'm trying to get a loan for $10,000. We just tried Wells Fargo Student Loans yesterday but won't hear back from them until Wednesday :P Can you name two places I could try to get a student loan? And would give an answer relatively fast? I'm getting nervous now...

    If I were you, I would try a local credit union. It may be your best bet, considering your situation. Also, have you tried contacting your school's Financial Aid Department? They may offer payment plans, which would be similar to taking out a private loan --- since more often than not, you have to start paying off private loans immediately in monthly payments. In the future, apply for FAFSA --- it'll save you a lot of stress :)

Since the semester already started (or is in so close of a process to) your best bet is to drop all your classes and wait until the spring semester. Just be sure to have the loan processed in a timely matter. Do not go with private sources, student loans from Federal Student Aid are always the best bet for so many reasons. By the way student loans cover only 2 semesters at a time. First you were behind now you are thinking way ahead. Take things a step at a time from now on and start in spring of 2012. Don't feel bad, I started in Spring cause I was behind on financial aid as well
