What is going to happen to my Ivy Tech Financial aid, should I continue with school?
-
I am on financial aid, full time student at Ivy Tech. I just started a full time job, I had to have a job to support myself and my son. They just changed my work hours and I have had to miss several classes at school. I contacted the FA office and they said it would be ok to drop one of my classes since it was impossible for me to make it to school. Now I have a $1500 balance on my account...am I going to have to pay this $1500 out of pocket? 2 of my classes are online, and the other one I still have, i'm going to fail it because I am absent for almost every class. All of the work is online and I've been keeping up...this is my second time taking this class...it's one of the classes that you have to take because you did badly on the compass test and you have to take it in order to get to the college level class. I know I can't withdraw from it..but I think I will fail it? I dont know what to do. I'm so overwhelmed. I feel I really need to take a break from school starting next semester but I don't want to let my parents down, my whole family will be disappointed in me. What do I do? Please all the advice you can give will be great. All the knowledge you know about withdrawing and financial aid. Thank you.

Answer:
Yes you will have to pay the balance. If your job cannot accommodate your school schedule then either schedule your classes next semester around your work schedule or hold off on school until you are more ready to go. Your parents will be more disappointed if you flunk out than if you admit you can't handle work and school at the same time. If you going to college is so important to them, can they help you out a bit financially so you can adjust your work schedule? Tough situation, I feel for you, but hang in there. It will all work out, even if it's years down the road. Go to your financial aid office and ask them to explain the charges on your account and work out a payment arrangement with them.
