How do I get my parents to let me go to a boarding school?

I want to go to a college prep/boarding school but my parents wont allow it if I can't get a full ride.?

  • I want to go to a college prep/boarding school but my parents wont allow it if I can't get a full ride. I wont technically qualify for "financial aid" because I technically don't need it, my dad's a doctor and makes about 300,000 a year. But my parents won't let me go unless I can get a full ride. I really want to go to a good boarding school because my public high school is terrible and mind-numbingly easy. I was home-schooled for a time, and ended up completing 2 years of school in 6 months, but that is no longer possible because my mom needs to work now that she and my dad are divorced. I want to go to boarding school because I need good academics and experience, that I just can't get at my current school, to get into the college I want. I am very studious, I get all A's, got a 198 on the psat, I do poetry, writing, tutoring and everything academic offered at my school but it still wont be enough. Is there any way I would qualify for a full tuition scholarship based purely on academics? Please help, I'm 14, almost 15 and I really need this to secure my future in spite of my parents efforts to quell it.

Doubtful. Everyone who goes to boarding school has good grades and financial aid (including scholarships) are typically limited to financially needy students. Have you looked into private schools in your area that may be significantly cheaper? Your parents may be willing do pay for that, but you'll obviously need to talk to them.

You can always try! There are many scholarships available to students. A lot actually go unclaimed each year simply because people don't apply. Getting a full ride to a private boarding school might be tough but you never know. Have you contacted the school to see if they offering anything? Might have to try and get dad to pick of the difference a bit. Tell him you want to receive a great education just like he did. This should win him over! Good luck!
