How to find scholarships for Juniors in High School?

How can i find scholarships/grants for young people struggling to attend school?

  • I have a friend who has gone through more struggles than i can imagine, just to keep going to college. parents divorced, stopped paying tuition, so they dropped out of University to go to a Community College. then the parent that was still around had an aneurysm, and was in Critical condition all summer, and this person had to care for their little siblings on their own. they are now paying their parents medical bills, going to school, and trying to become a neuroscientist, but they cannot afford to keep going to school. this person is the most deserving person that i know of for a scholarship or a grant, but i don't know where to go to nominate them for anything of the sort. where can i look/ who can i talk to about getting this person financial aid so they can finish school and become a doctor? -note: ideally, im looking for one of those grants/scholarships where the receiver is nominated, and it is a surprise.

  • Answer:

Your friend should be getting financial aid from the government at www.fafsa.ed.gov and should talk to his/her financial aid office about any further scholarships. EVERYONE deserves an education and many can't pay for it themselves. Lots of people really deserve help due to difficult situations at home, but the fact is there is NOT enough money to give to everyone with a sad story. If your friend needs help paying for school, there are options out there, but he/she will have to pursue it. You won't be able to do anything without having all of their personal information.Even nominating someone for a scholarship, if there is even such a thing, would require personal info.

I have no idea about the surprise part.. But I know a site: fastweb.com In regards to scholarships in general, be careful what you sign up for. There are some scams out there. So if they ever ask you for really personal information that can put your financial situation in jeopardy (such as social security number, etc.) then I suggest not to trust those kind of "scholarships".

WOW! Really sorry to hear about your friend, what a strong person he/she is. If your friend to supporting a parent more than 50% and living in the same household your friend should definitely apply for the Pell Grant! FAFSA Application. I would suggest strongly that your friend speak with one of the college advisers at the college he/she wants to attend. They can advise your friend on scholarships that are available and any State and Federal Financial Aid that is available as well. Wishing your friend the best, and tell your friend not to give up!!!
