Do student loans go to the school or directly to the student?

Do student loans go to the school or you?

  • So I need to get a student loan unfortunately to help pay for living expenses like my car payments and food and stuff. I just want to know if the student loan would go to me or the school? I was looking on sallie mae but I wasn't sure if it would be sent to the school or to me. Just in case the school restricts me on how much they give me if I take the loan out of if they might just not give it to me. I'm already on financial aid and that's covering my classes and books barely. I'm just a little freaked out since this is my first time going for a student loan. So any help and advice would be much appreciated

  • Answer:

It will go to the school. The school will apply it to your bill, and if there's anything left over, they'll send you a check. You won't get your refund until at least the first week of classes.
