How would I go about becoming a midwife?

My family doesn't have enough money for me to go to the college that I want. Help please?

  • I'm a senior in high school and I'm planning on becoming a registered nurse and then going on to nurse midwife, or an occupational therapist. My gpa is 3.227 and i my overall score on my act was 21. My gpa could have been higher, but i didn't try very hard my freshman or sophomore year. But so far this year I've gotten all A's. I really want to go to a university that has both of the programs I'm considering and tuition is about $8,000 and I'll be living at home probably for the first year or two. There is a community college by me also, and tuition is about $4,000 and my parents are making me go there even though I've already been accepted to the other one. If i went to the community college, I would take my basic classes and then transfer. But I heard that it's a pain to transfer, and I don't want to stay there for 2 years. Also I want to cheer at the university. So I really need to get money somehow for college. I live with my dad, and he makes $30,000 a year. He's retired and has never went to college. I've been trying to fill out scholarships also, but I'm busy with cheer and hw so I haven't been putting my all into them. How can I get finacial aid? Thank you.

  • Answer:

Apply to the cc as well, as a backup plan. Then, in January, complete the FAFSA. Send your FAFSA info to both schools. Then see what they offer you in terms of financial aid. To be quite honest, $8,000 per year is very cheap for a university. That'd be a really good bargain. In addition, if your community college offers a nursing major, going there first would save you money. You'd get your associates in nursing there, then transfer to the university (losing no time), and complete your bachelors in nursing. HOWEVER, if this cc doesn't offer a nursing major, you won't be able to take the classes you need at the cc in order to transfer smoothly into the university's nursing program. You'd enter the nursing program 1-2 years behind, and it would take you longer to graduate - and thus you'd save little, if any money by doing this. So only go to the cc for two years if they actually have a nursing major. Otherwise, you're wasting your time and money.

You fill out a FAFSA form to get financial aid. And remember, you get what you give, so the more effort you put into it, the more you will get out of it.

You will apply for financial aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov next semester. The application is available in January and you need to fill it out asap.
