How long does it take for a student loan to get deferred?

• I'm back in school full time now and my hours at my job had to be cut down because of it. My student loan payment is too much for me to handle along with phone,car,house etc. I asked for deferment in Aug. Around the middle of the month. How long will it usually take for a person to get their loans to go through the deferment process? I've had to pay two months worth since asking for deferment.( My payments are due the 10th of each month. I paid Aug, Sept. so far.)

  Usually you do not have to request a deferment - it goes through a clearinghouse process. If your school was part of the clearinghouse system you wouldn't have had to make the September payment at all. It's possible your application got moved to the back because it's outside this clearinghouse and they have so much to process. But because deferments are pretty ordinary work I doubt it will take too much longer. You may have to make the October payment but that should be it.
