How would I go about becoming a midwife?

My family doesn't have enough money for me to go the college that I want. Help please?

  • I'm a senior in high school and I'm planning on becoming a registered nurse and then going on to nurse midwife, or an occupational therapist. My gpa is 3.227 and i my overall score on my act was 21. My gpa could have been higher, but i didn't try very hard my freshman or sophomore year. But so far this year I've gotten all A's. I really want to go to a university that has both of the programs I'm considering and tuition is about $8,000 and I'll be living at home probably for the first year or two. There is a community college by me also, and tuition is about $4,000 and my parents are making me go there even though I've already been accepted to the other one. If i went to the community college, I would take my basic classes and then transfer. But I heard that it's a pain to transfer, and I don't want to stay there for 2 years. Also I want to cheer at the university. So I really need to get money somehow for college. I live with my dad, and he makes $30,000 a year. He's retired and has never went to college. I've been trying to fill out scholarships also, but I'm busy with cheer and hw so I haven't been putting my all into them. How can I get finacial aid? Thank you.

  • Answer:

    1) apply for FAFSA: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ --- this way you will know if you can get any Pell Grant and/or Student Loans 2) see if the college that you want to go to has Cheer scholarships, ask your Cheer coach to recommend you, if they do 3) contact the school you want to go to Financial Aid office & see what they suggest 4) If both of these schools are in your home state, most likely the University has a program already in place at the Community College that makes it easy to transfer - ask the Uni & the Community College about this, they can give you more info 5) It may be possible for you to get an Associates Degree as an RN at the Community College and then continue your education at the Uni to get your Bachelor's --- this will allow you to be employed, even part-time at a very nice wage while you complete your bachelor's degree. It is also highly likely that if you work for a large place (like a hospital) that they will contribute towards the cost of you continuing your education to get your BS RN It really does save a great deal of money to get your general classes out of the way at the community college

FAFSA forms - google themand ask your school councilor Don't just focus on scholarships; student loans are cheap. Just be sure you finish school if you take out a loan. Also- for nursing, there is no reason not to do general studies requirements at a community college ifits cheaper.

Try to make time to fill out scholarship applications. You can also call the school to find out how to get financial aid. There are lots of options and they will help you figure out how much you can get.

short cake

you can start college at anytime so just go find a small time job, rake up some money, then go to college

Fill out the FAFSA only here http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ which is the free application for federal student aid. It has to be filled out every year you are in college to continue getting aid. It comes out Jan 1 to fill out each year. It is best to fill it out Jan 1 because the earlier you file the more you maximize your award. Don't wait for your taxes to be done for that year, use the previous year taxes to do it, then asap do the taxes and then log back onto the FAFSA and put in the correct tax info and resubmit. http://bellarminearc.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/file-your-fafsa-early-this-year-and-heres-why/ You list on the FAFSA colleges you may want to attend. It takes like 2-3 weeks for them to process or take in the information from your form. When you log in it will say the status, for example processed. After its processed it will take 1-2 weeks for them to put that info into their formula and come up with your EFC. They put the result of your FAFSA and EFC in a report called SAR and you will get an email that this is ready and they will automatically send it to all the colleges you list on FAFSA form. How federal aid works. You fill out the FAFSA. This form asks you questions and based on your answers it determines your family's financial picture so they know how much you deserve to be offered. They put these answers into a formula they use and the result is called your EFC. This number is a measure of your financial strength, not how much you get or how much you pay. They will send this EFC to the colleges you listed on FAFSA. Those colleges you listed on the FAFSA which you applied to and want to offer you admission will then use that EFC number in order to award you a federal aid award. They will create the award and then send you an email or postcard that it is ready. Usually for fall the awards go out early mid april and for spring early mid december. They can offer you grants which never have to be paid back, student loans which you pay back, parent loans which parent pays back, or federal work study which is where your school will help you find a job in school or in the neighborhood to earn the amount of award money for college. Depending on what you qualify for based on your EFC, as well as when you file because filing early you get more aid that determines which if any of these they offer you. Here is sample award: http://www.triptocollege.org/paying_colleges/figure_out/sample_letters.cfm Then you look over all the awards from the colleges who give your awards and pick where you want to attend and on that colleges award each type offered you accept or deny it. Most all students have loans and that is how they can afford to attend college. The rule of thumb is not to accept more loans than you will make the first year with your degree after college. The federal loans repayment begins after you quit, fall below half time or graduate. This is a great site, comes out each year so look for it next year when you go but here is this years: http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/attachments/siteresources/Funding_Education_Beyond_HS_2011-12.pdf Make sure you do this form. You are not accepting anything by filling it out. They will offer you what you qualify for and if you dont want to accept any of it you just deny it or you can accept part of it and deny part of it. So there is no harm filling it out. Here is the FAFSA help in case you and your parent need help filling it out cuz its kinda complicated until you get used to it: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/contact.htm
