Ideas for a military service project?

I need some ideas for college community service project?

Service Learning (60 Points): This semester you are required (just as I am required to assign) to do a service project of some kind. Basically, I want you to find a need in the community or at the college that you can become involved in and make a difference for one other person this semester. I am not going to put an hour limit on it, however I would like you to do no less than 5 hours. I want you do to what you feel comfortable doing. Part of this class is learning about our culture and about civic responsibility. Please be creative! If you need help coming up with a project, please contact me for ideas. There are ample opportunities for you do to something meaningful either on campus or in the community. After you have completed your project you will write a 2-3 page paper on your service learning. Your service learning project has to be dropped in assignment box before May 2nd.

  The teacher invited you to see him or her to get some ideas. Maybe that would be the simplest step to take. I would help you but you didn't mention what kind of community you are in so it is not possible for me to make accurate suggestions. I used to be the CEO of a family service agency that had hundreds of volunteers in a wide variety of capacities -- short and long term. My best achievement was many years ago helping the boat people from Laos resettle into lives in the USA. Most of the best work was done by dozens of volunteers who did everything from babysit while the adults went out to seek work to teaching basic english so the people could do grocery shopping independently. Most communities have homes for the aged and handicapped. Hospitals always need visitors who will read to patients or write letters for them when they can't do so. Most communities also have soup kitchens or food pantries who always need help. Agencies for children often need volunteers in a variety of capacities. There is no end to the work that never gets done because there are not funds to hire people to do it. Much of it is important work.
