Can I get into an ivy league school?

  • I'm a senior in high school, and during the fall I will be going to I.U.P (Indiana University of Pennsylvania). For my masters I want to go to an Ivy League school such as, Harvard, Yale, etc. Will I need super high grades from my B.A. in order to get in? Or will I need connections? I really want to get into an ivy league school, because my sat scores are low and during my freshman and sophmore yr of high school, I really did not care because since I move so much my motivation for school just wasn't in me. Now since I'm going to be in one location for the next four years, I want to apply for a school with hard work and dedication.

    A masters in what? The ivies don't have the best programs for everything, nor do they offer everything, and many of their graduate programs will only consider admitting you if you want a PhD (no terminal masters). But in general, you need extremely high college grades, great test scores (GRE, GMAT, subject GRE, MCAT, etc), and research/work experience in your field.

How do you expect to get into an Ivy League with low SAT scores? That's the one thing they look at. You need to maintain high grades during your whole high school career. You should've taken school seriously of you really wanted so badly to get into an Ivy League.

High grades, high standardized test scores, research experience and publications if it's an academic discipline, good recommendations from your professors, a well-thought out plan for your career...and even then, there are no guarantees. Remember, though, that just because a school's an Ivy doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be the best place for what you want to study - particularly in grad school, where specialization is so important.
