Would a 'W' on a transcript affect getting an internship/job with CIA?

With three W's on my transcript, have i messed up my chances for getting into med school?

  • I am a senior at the University of Kentucky, majoring in chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry. I have done very well in my classes with a GPA of 3.8. I have taken all the premed prerequisites, earning A's in all of them. I have also scored very well on the MCAT. I started off at a community college before i transferred to UK, and during my freshman year there i dropped 3 classes during my second semester and received a W in them. two of them were an Anatomy class and it's lab, a class i did not need and was doing badly in, although i have went on to Acing upper level chemistry and biology classes during the past few years. The third was a computer class that i was failing though i went on to retake it the next semester and received an A. This was all at the community college and not UK. It seems like an eternity ago now, but could these three W's come back and hurt my chances of getting into med school?

  • Answer:

The MCAT score is what you want. If you scored as 33 on your MCAT, they won't care about those 3 W's. If you scored more 'average' like a 28, then it may impact your application.

With your gpa and a 30+ mcat score, your chances are not completely ruined. However you must be prepared to have a good answer if/when you are questioned about it in your secondary applications or during you interviews. A quitting trend is never a positive thing, but be sure to highlight to better qualities of your application.
