What does an English major do?

What could I do with an English major?

• This question isn't really for me, its for my girlfriend. She really loves writing and its very good at. She would love to be an English major so she could work with something she enjoys, but she has no idea what she could do with an English major once she graduates college. The one thing everyone suggests is teaching but she says she would hate that and that's the generic English major job. So could somebody give me some information or some websites I could look into? Thanks

  Without an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) there is literally no career options specific to that subject unless she teaches or writes a best selling novel. I've included a link that might help her market herself better to employers so she'll at least be competitive against other, more marketable degrees at the undergraduate level. There may be a few careers that might interest her in that article and perhaps she'll be motivated to to choose a minor in a more practical field so she'll have something to fall back on.
