Do college credits ever expire?

Do College Undergrad Credits For A Minor Expire?

  • I obtained an undergrad degree in History and a minor in films studies. If I decide to pursue a degree in film studies, will those credits expire after a certain amount of time? Or can I pursue that degree at anytime in the future so long as the credits transfer?

  • Answer:

Credits only expire if you don't apply them to a degree. If you have a degree, your credits are 'set' - it doesn't matter how long ago it was, or how many classes you took in that area. You might need to do some reviewing, or take a few classes over for your own sake, but it's not necessarily required. But credits not applied to a degree can expire - the previous state I lived in had them expiring after 10 years (not sure if this is standard or not) which became a big problem for grad students who took more than 10 years to complete their degree.
