How to do an orientation tour?

College orientation? help please?

  • Hey! So I got accepted to Georgia State University and I have to go to this INCEPT ORIENTATION program from 7 AM- 7:55 AM- check-in… So basically from 8 AM to 5 PM. And we’re going to take a tour of campus, meet with advisors, meet new people, blah, blah, blah! Actually take that back, it sounds pretty fun… I just didn’t want to write it all out :D Anyways, I am going to meet new people from other parts of GA, from all over the nation and all over the world- && I’m nervous! I was never a “popular” person in high school. I mean I’m over weight, and I don’t have the LATEST RALPH LAUREN clothes but I’m friendly to everyone and most everyone likes me, minus the jerks who like pissing people off for “fun…” But I’m on a diet! I’m trying to lose all my weight before July- ORIENTATION!!! But my main concern is what should I wear?? I mean, I don’t want to seem too dressed or too casual, you know?!?! I was thinking one of those tank-and-cardigan things, where the tank is a part of the cardigan, with strappy sandals w/ heels, dark jeans, hair straightened (my hair is up to my butt. NO. JOKE.), eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara…but I feel like that’s wayyyy too over dressed. What if everyone shows up in shorts and a tee? Second option- AN ATLANTA TEE, jeans, a side braid (straighten my hair of course), strappy sandals w/o heels and just eyeliner and MAYBE mascara- a really laid back look! HELP , WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!? WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? OPTION 1 OR 2??? I dont know b/c I'm the oldest in my family and no one knows that orientation is like so I have no one to help me! I want to make a good impression!

    Most students were in shorts and a t-shirt and gym shoes at my daughter's orientation. ( it was during the summer) You are thinking way too much about this.

You don't have to really impress anyone during orientation. They're trying to give new students the feel of where everything is and make them relaxed. A little "team spirit", and it wastes a lot of time. The most important thing is to meet with your advisor, and schedule your classes. All the "Rah Rah Go Team Mascot!" -- you can skip. The tour of the campus -- if you can read a map, and if you know where the financial aid office and the classrooms are -- you can skip.

I would wear something a bit more professional. Maybe a nice pair of dark jeans, flats, and a classy shirt with your hair in a bun?
