How important is being in an Honors Program as an undergrad?

Should I choose UCF Honors College or FSU non-honors?

  • I have been accepted into both schools and recieved a letter stating I have been chosen for the Burnett Honors College. I was not accepted into FSU Honors Program. I've already done extensive research on both schools and I am leaning toward UCF Honors. My only concern is whether I will lose a competitve advantage when I apply for law school (undergrad major = Political Science, History, or International Relations) although I know wherever I choose to go I will be heavily involved and do very well academically. I would especially appreciate feedback from former, current, or parents of students at these two schools. Thanks so much!

    go for Honors College. My daughter is in Honors college at her university. She must take certain honor classes, which is has really liked (usually less than 20 students), she can live in the honors' dorm, she can register for classes earlier, she can check out books from the library for the whole semester. In the honors dorm you are around a whole group of students who must maintain a high GPA. She and her boyfriend both have loved being in Honors college and honor classes. Why would being on honors college hurt your chances at law school?

You won't be at a disadvantage if you go to UCF. Still, I'd go to FSU. You should plan for the worst case. What if you don't get into law school? Would you rather have a degree from FSU or a directional school like UCF?
