Are colleges raising their requirements? If so, why are they doing it?

  • As I have been applying to colleges, I've been noticing that most of these schools have raised their admission requirements, like GPA from 4.5 to 4.7 or ACT 25 to 28. Is there a reason why they are rasining them?

  • Answer:

if they're raising their requirements, it is probably because there are more qualified students who are applying to the college than there used to be

There are alot of people going to college right now. colleges, even the low ranked ones are getting more apps than they are use to. They are taking the most qualified people only. Many say the minium requirment is a 2.0 GPA. Thats the Minium when you could get accepted when there was nobody going. Now that they have more people than they can take you must be the most qualifed.

I would assume it's a combination of more people wanting to go to college (so the spaces available can be filled by the larger number of people who meet tougher criteria) and ongoing grade inflation.
