I want to become a pastry chef/baker, but I don't know any good colleges/universities in my state?

I'm a high school senior and i wanted to become a pastry chef/baker, but i can't find any good schools in NJ. If anyone knows a good school please let me know.

Answer:
A community college is a much better value than a private school and will provide the same instruction for much less money. The quality of Le Cordon Bleu schools varies greatly among locations. The Art Institute does not have a good reputation. Start by looking at the community college program mentioned in another answer. Best wishes.

In NYC there are several, including the French Culinary Institute and the Institute of Culinary Education. There's also the Culinary Institute of America in Dutchess County. There's the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont. Johnson & Wales has several campuses, the closest would be Rhode Island. If you don't want to leave NJ, your local community college is probably the best choice.
Hutson county community college, Le Cordon Bleu and Arts Institute
The programs that you are interested in are actually taught as vocational courses rather than college level. Look for the culinary arts division of a public community college. Visit the campus and sit down to talk to an andviser there. Avoid ANY for-profit schools like Art Institute or Le Cordon Bleu. Those are for-profit nationwide chain schools that have a terrible reputation. What they are offering are not true college degrees , but rather vocational certificates in cooking that they may try to call degrees. See RipOffReport.com for school reviews. The public community college will generally cost less and be more accepted in the job market.
