What are the steps to becoming a radiologist and is it worth it?

Steps to becoming a radiologist?

  • So I really want to be a radiologist. I want to read x rays mainly and basically work with bones and muscles and diagnose patients. For example, someone comes into a hospital because they heart them self, or they have been in pain for a while, I want to be the one who reads the x ray or cat scan and diagnose the patient and tell them whats wrong.

  • Answer:

The radiologist doesn't tell the patient what's wrong - they dictate a report that goes to the doctor who ordered the test and that doctor tells the patient. You need a bachelor degree - 4 years, then medical school - 4 years, then 5 years of residency.

Start with a 4-year college degree. Major in anything and take the premed courses in bio, chem, physics, math, and English. Keep your college GPA well over 3.5 and do well on the MCATs. Then you've got 4 years of med school, and then 5 years of residency (training).
