How should I ask for my letter of reference?

What should I do if I ask for a reference letter and got no reply? Not even a yes or no?

  • I asked my professor 5 days ago (via email) for a recommendation letter for grad school. I don't live in the same state as my school anymore so I can't go see her in person. She wrote a recommendation letter for me for employment when I graduated but this college I am applying to needs her to fill out a specific form that rates my ability in the particular field I am studying/ ability to do graduate work. I sent her the form, the previous recommendation letter she wrote and a paper I had written for her class. This paper she had nominated for undergraduate research symposium and it was selected. I haven't been to that school in a year and a half so I sent her everything I could to help her with doing the recommendation and I did ask "Do you feel you could give me a recommendation?" I haven't heard anything back. Not a yes not a no. It was never like this. She always was good with email and responded right away. What should I do? Email her again? What do I say?

    I d make a personal telephone call, ask them if they overlooked your request, and would they be willling too. check to see if email is there and give time frame to get it.. SEE CALL

Email her again. It's possible your email was lost in her inbox, she read it, but forgot to reply (she's human, it can happen) or that she is on vacation and forgot to set up an automated vacation reply email (this actually happened to me, professor didn't reply for nearly 2 weeks). If she still doesn't reply after this second email, call the department and ask for her. They should tell you if she is out of the office. If this still does not work, you will likely have to ask someone else.
