What are our chances of getting in to our school of choice?

What are my chances in getting into UCLA?

  • Okay, so here's the deal. I'm a high school senior applying to colleges, with UCLA being at the top of my list. I was wondering what my chances are in getting in. My UC GPA is 4.125, with my unweighted GPA being 3.8 or 3.75 (something along the lines of that). My SAT score is disappointing to me (I planned to get a 2000+) - it was a 1910. Subject tests, taken, didn't do that hot (Literature: 580, U.S. History: 660). I'm currently ranking 15 in my graduating class and am part of ELC (Eligibility in the Local Context), which is a program that enables the top 4% of a high school's graduating class guaranteed admission to any UC (except UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UC San Diego), although it might not be the UC of your choice. I've done a pretty decent number of community service hours, about 116+, and I'm involved in Journalism, being the Feature Editor and staff writer of my high school's newspaper. I'm also the treasurer of the investor's club and the secretary of my school's history club. So far I've taken about 5 AP classes; most of my classes were also honors. I've gotten a decent number of awards and honors, one that I'm proud of is my essay being published in UCLA Anthropology. One thing I'm concerned about is that recently, in my senior year, I've gotten my first C ever in AP Calculus AB. I'm afraid that'll ruin my transcripts, since I've gotten only mostly A's, and a couple B's. I know I'll raise it up to an A or a B, but I'm just afraid that C will stand out like a sore thumb. It will, but will this greatly affect my chances of getting in? If you need more info, do tell. Thanks a bunch. :)

  • Answer:

The C wont really affect you because you got it during senior year. They only care for sophmore and junior year. I think your chances are great! I say you will make it as long as you prove yourself in the personal statement. Im not going to lie but because of the bad economy, UCLA might cut 2000 students from making it this year which is from a 21 percent acceptance rate to 17 percent acceptance rate. I do think you will definately get in any UC but your chances are lower for UCLA UCB. I say you will make it to UCSD.

PRETTY GOOD. UCLA IS NOT ALL THAT HARD TO GET INTO.

I don't believe it is hopeless; in fact, I'd say your chances are about 75%. It depends on what major you intend on applying for as well as other extra factors taken into consideration.
