Senior schedule: which would like better when applying for college?
-
heyy. so i'm currently taking 3 foreign languages this year, AP language and composition, AP US history, regular algebra II & trigonometry, and honors chemistry. after this year, i'll have completed all the math/science course requirements for an advanced diploma at my high school, and i only have enough room on my schedule to take either math or science. would it look better to take an additional year of science or math? the science class would be AP biology, and the math class would probably be AP statistics or college algebra because there's no way i'm taking per-calculus. option #1: AP lit AP government AP economics alternating days band/health AP Bio alternating every other day with lab period and gym French IV Spanish III option #2: AP lit AP government AP economics band/health alternating days AP statistics French Spanish gym/some other half year course i'd definitely enjoy science more, but AP statistics would count as a math credit towards core class requirements in college, meaning i won't have to endure the hell that is math in college as much. i wouldn't mind taking a college science course though. thanks for answering :)

Answer:
Pre-Calc is College Algebra. Same thing, trust me. Are you sure that Stats would count towards math core for your college major at the college that you chose? All the colleges in my area that I've looked at had either College Algebra/Pre-Calc or Calculus as their math requirement. I've never heard of Stats being a math core class. Take AP Stats or AP Biology IF you haven't applied to college yet. Looks better on application. Make sure that you check that your AP Stats will fulfill your college math requirement. If not, then (in my opinion) it's a waste of time taking that class. I would suggest taking AP Biology. You will probably have to take Pre-Calc in college so don't waste your time with regular Pre-Calc in high school.

I would personally take AP biology and endure math in college. AP statistics may or may not count as a math credit, depending on where you go and what your major is. For many majors, you'll have to take College Algebra (unless you test out of it) and in many cases, while it's a pain, it's bearable. On the other hand, AP biology would probably get you out of having to take biology or another natural sciences class in college. Some natural sciences classes aren't so bad, but many colleges don't have very good biology programs, especially concerning the lower level class.
