How do colleges recalculate GPA?

Is it bad for my GPA to have 2 electives?

  • Hi I'm a junior in high school and my dream school is UCLA. I currently have a 4.26 weighted GPA, which could be a 4.30 if I didn't have 2 electives. Do colleges like UCLA recalculate GPA's? I feel it would be a shame to be rejected just for this... Is there any way I can audit one of my classes (art or yearbook)? Is it bad that I got two 4.0's Sophomore year? I only took 1 AP class, and it seems to be bringing down my weighted GPA. I've gotten a 4.43 and in the process of getting a 4.63 hopefully. This sucks! Also, what are some extracurricular activites ideas you have that would make me stand out from other candidates? I need some. (:

  • Answer:

Every school recalculates GPAs because every high school uses different weighting systems. Most use unweighted GPAs, others use their own weighting systems. Stop worrying, you're not going to get rejected because you got an A in a non-honors class. Even Harvard isn't that picky.
