  • Answer:

My only concern is your GPA and class rank being a little low. I don't think you'll get in under early action, but I think you have an excellent chance of getting in via regular admission. They only take the shoe-ins early, but don't take that personally. You can go ahead and apply early action and see what happens. I predict they'll decide not to accept you in December, but will accept you in April. They'll probably want to see how you can do in your senior fall semester. Have you taken the SAT II tests? I don't know if they're required for Georgetown. It looks like you may have become over-involved in extracurricular activities at the expense of your GPA. Schools that are this selective want to know that you have the academic cred first and can finish their program. They don't want to accept someone only to have them drop out. The coaches for tennis, soccer, and track may be interested in you, and that would really help. As you probably know, George Washington University would be a good safety school for you. American University is not so good academically, but there are always excellent speakers and connections in Washington to be made there. A lot of it depends on how much money your parents are willing to spend. I would not take out loans to pay for any of these schools, Georgetown included, because repaying those loans would be a real hardship, especially if you're headed for law school. Usually you get what you pay for. Some people like state schools and really push people towards them, but to be perfectly frank, unless you're in an honors program with small classes, state schools aren't as good as private schools. Again, you get what you pay for. A lot of state schools simply do not have enough dormitories so that you can live on campus and walk to class. I went to an Ivy League school, and it was definitely a place with good amenities and it was great to be able to live in a dorm and get to class on foot in ten minutes. Don't underestimate what a bonus this is. People who go to state schools often end up in terrible apartments that cost twice as much as they should, and you may have to use a car to get to school, and of course, parking is a nightmare.
