Transfer from community college?

If I go to community college for 1 year and then transfer to another college...?

  • Will the college I'm transferring to look at my high school GPA? I really messed up in high school and i have a 2.0 GPA. I want to go to community college for 1 year and then in october next year apply to a 4 year college for spring admission. What if I get A's in EVERYTHING. What if I retake my SAT test and get higher grades in it. WHAT IF I MAKE THE BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT IN THE PLANET AND GET A 4.0 GPA IN MY FIRST YEAR OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. will they forgive me for being a dumb*** in high school and pay more attention to my community college grade? i really know that i can do better but i was just to lazy and i regret not working hard in high school so much. if i transfer after that 1 year will i start my new 4 year college as a freshman instead of starting as a softmore? will I? i dont care if i start as a freshman really. please tell me that they wont pay much attention to what i did in high school and just pay more attention to what i did in community college. I'm going to do MY BEST in community college. when i get to community college, does my high school gpa follow me or will it start from 0.0 and give me a fresh start? please help and answer all my questions please.

  • Answer:

They won't completely ignore your high school GPA, but they will certainly give more weight to your performance in community college. Most schools will allow you to transfer one or two semester's worth of credits. Whereever you go, do well. Don't focus on getting in to a university as the thing that makes up for what happened in high school. If you finish at a community college with strong grades and strong recommendations from your instructors who think you're one of the most motivated students, that will look better to grad schools than getting B's and maybe a C at a university along with letter of recommendation from professors who think you're just OK.

Yes, these kind of second chances exist and it is a good plan. I know people who suceeded at this.

For most four year colleges, if you are transferring with less than 60 credits they will want your HS transcripts too. Your HS transcripts are final. You start over freshman year of college. You must look on each school's web site to see what their requirements are for transfer students.

Generally you need 60 CC credits for a full do over.
