Do I need to take the TOEFL?

Do I need to take the TOEFL?

  • English technically wasn't my first language, although I use it exclusively now; I moved to the US when I was 4 and am a American citizen (with a Bachelor's Degree in Science). When applying to a UK University for a Masters program, will I still need to take TOEFL??

  • Answer:

No. For the same reason as mentioned above as your education was primarily in English.

Since all your education was in English, then no.

It depends on what that university requires--every school makes their own rules. At the US school I work for, if you got a bachelor's degree (or higher) from a university where the language of instruction was English, then you would have met the requirement--no TOEFL scores needed. Some countries (the UK, Canada, Singapore, etc.) they just assume your degree coursework was taught in English; others (India, for one), they ask for further proof, because it varies there. Bottom line: ask the university you're applying to--but you're probably safe.
