How do I write a personal statement for law school?

Will 'coming out' in my law school personal statement hurt me?

  • For my personal statement, law schools want to discuss about overcoming adversity and how that it built up my personal strength. I believe coming out was the hardest part of my life, but i don't know if it will hurt my chances of getting accepted. would it? thanks!

  • Answer:

I never have any overcoming adversities to talk about in my essays. I think that sounds like a good one, it certainly couldn't have been easy to come out. Besides, they are probably looking for diversity in their student body.

No, it wouldn't hurt you at all.

When in doubt, turn straight.

Why not let your graders and other attributes speak for themselves. Unfortunately in today's politically correct Nazi world it may help. Groups who demand equal rights should practice what they preach and not play any card. If you expect others not to make an issue then you should not either. Law school is an expensive trade school and a lawyer's job is to look out for the client's interests and admission should be treated as such. And a gay lawyer is not a novelty. There is a 30% unemployment rate for new mouth pieces and a 100k student loan bill as well gay or straight.
