Is UCLA Film School a good school for aspiring film directors?

  • I've done some research, and I have my sights set on UCLA Film School for directing. http://www.tft.ucla.edu/programs/film-production/ Is it a good school that will help me become a film director? How expensive is it? Thanks for your help, in advance.

UCLA is a pretty good school however there are some people who disapprove of the UC film school system since they are extremely competitive. I recommend Chapmen: Dodge FIlm School or Loyola Marymount University SFTV. Both are fantastic schools as well. They are private and probably a little more expensive but no matter where you go,you will only get out what you put into film school. I love LMU it is a catholic/jesuit university and I am an atheist but the film school is great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAVrDIkxZ0k&feature=feedu All that being said, don't get your heart set on being a director. Almost everyone wants to be one but very few are actually good at it. Start thinking about other positions as well like Producing or being a DP or editor.

UCLA is a great school. As for the poster who said NYU is better than USC, it isn't. AS a UCLA student, I know USC has the best film program. Look at how many people involved in the industry are involved with SC, Lucas, Spielberg, Coppola the list goes on. You don't need film school to direct. Just go out and do it.
