In the US, you'd be looking at 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and 3+ years of residency.

After high school, go to college and make sure you take all of your required pre-med classes, but it helps most to major in Biology. Once you take the MCAT, if you are taking enough hours in college, you should graduate undergrad in 4 years. Med school is a set 4 years (unless you fail a year and they let you come back), and a pediatrics residency is 3 years. So, 4 years college, 4 years med school= 8 years. You get paid and are a doctor during your residency...you just can't practice on your own (for the most part).
