    It's not an easy transition...the PTA degree was never meant to be a stepping stone to the PT degree. Unless you plan on entering one of the two "bridge" program in the US (either Findlay in OH, or Loma Linda in CA), it will generally go like this: 1. Apply to a college or university so you can start working on a BS degree. You'll need to take both your general education, prerequisites and major courses. Don't expect a lot of your courses from your AAS to transfer, you'll still need to complete a lot of general education. 2. This process should take you 3-4 years if you are a full time student...you might be able to knock off a couple courses if you had some advanced science courses at your CC 3. As you near completion of your BS degree, you can take the GRE and complete any required observation hours. 4. You'll then be eligible to apply to a graduate PT program. Once in the program, it will be another 2-3 years of graduate work. You might get credit for a couple courses such as patient skills classes and might not have to complete all your clinicals, but because PT is such a structured program, it probably won't mean that you can graduate any earlier. It's not an easy transition...you are basically starting at square one, like eveyone else...but you have a good experience under your belt. The next step is to take the necessary prerequisites for a PT school(s) and aim to get a 4.0 GPA since competition is keen for acceptance into such a school. Most PT programs are at the master's degree level but seem to be moving to the doctoral level. (A PT in the field that I was receving therapy from had told me that one doesn't necessarily need a doctoral in PT unless wanting to teach at the university level or perform research, just fyi.) There are only so many seats available in a PT program with a lot of applicants that will have really high GPAs. It's best to check with the PT schools' prerequisites and requirements since there may be slightly different from program to program, and please check with the PT schools Before actually taking any prereq courses to find out if the credits transfer. One should also look at more than 1 or 2 PT schools since it's so competitive to get accepted as a student.
