What Are My Chances Of Becoming A Doctor?

  • So I've been looking at the requirements for becoming a doctor, and I had a few concerns about my chances. . .I had a GPA of 3.77, taking 3 honors classes, 1 AP, and 3 electives. Just a few Questions: Is this GPA high enough, assuming I maintain it for the rest of high school? If not, what should I target? Do colleges take a weighted GPA? If not, would it be better for me to not take honors classes and get a higher unweighted GPA? Do colleges care about the difficulty of classes (Do They care if the classes are AP/ Honors)? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the order for becoming a doctor is High School - College - Pre-Med - Med School? Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

A slim chance...if not with a little more study you may be able become a janitor. No promises though because I don't want to unnecessarily raise your hopes.

Your high school GPA has nothing to do with getting into med school. Colleges ask for your unweighted GPA, but they take into consideration the difficulty of the classes you take. Pre-med is just a handful of classes you need to take while you're in college to meet the admissions requirements for med schools.

ur gpa is fine, maintain that. 1 AP class might be a bit few, might wanna take a few more of those, cuz they do care about the difficulty of ur classes, shows determination and eagerness to challenge yourself academically. and the order is wrong, because pre-med is just a set of required courses that u have to take during college in order to be a valid applicant for a medical school. in the end tho the medical school isnt gonna care about ur high school stuff, so just maintain a high gpa in college and be very active in terms of clubs and medical internships over the summers and stuff like that. for now just focus on getting into a good undergraduate college. ur gpa is good, the number of difficult classes is decent, might be better/safer to have more, and if u have good volunteer experiences then u shud be all set for college. good luck with everything
