Chance of getting into ucsd?

My son is applying to UCSD and has the academic record found below. Does he have a good chance of getting in?

  • JV Football - 1 year Varsity - 1 year National Honors Society and CSF member 150 Volunteer hours 750 Extracurricular hours Poolee with the United States Marine Corps Youth and Government - 1 year 3 jobs in the past 3 years. SAT - 1650 ACT - 25 Cumulative GPA: 3.3 (unweighted) Took 8 AP classes, and passed all 8 tests with 1-5, 5-4's, and 2-3's. He also has above all of the recommended amount of credits for the courses.

    GPA and SAT are really low. He is more Cal State material. Look up UCSD and SDSU at www.cappex.com to look how his SAT and GPA compare to the students accepted at those schools. Lookin at the UCSD map at cappex.com I would say his chance is zero. Looking at the SDSU map, his chances are on the low side as well. Cal State San Marcos looks more like where he will get in with little trouble.

The extracurricular activities are impressive but the test scores a little low. UCSD takes weighted gpa's so i bet his is around a 3.5 with the ap classes but unfortunately san diego is looking for people with 4.0 or 4.1 gpa's. But he can definitely get his test scores up, just get a review book they really do work!

Unfortunately he is a little low in GPA for UCSD which is the third most difficult UC to get into after Berkeley and UCLA. If he is a junior he still has some time to get his GPA up. If he is a senior and he has not applied yet you need to know that the deadline was November 30.
