Job or college? What's the better choice?
-
I'm becoming more and more less motivated to go to college. I'm in the 2nd semester of my freshman year and I'm just thinking what a waste of time it is. I think I'd rather start getting a job now and save up money then eventually move out instead of waiting 3 more years then getting a job then moving out. What would be the better choice? PS: I don't want to work and get a job because I would be too stressed and I like to put my all into one thing.

Answer:
This is a really lousy time to be in the job market. The unemployment rate is at 10% (and that doesn't count people who are underemployed or have simply given up looking for a job) and that means that there are people with masters degrees fighting over part time gigs that pay ten bucks an hour. Unless you have great connections or specialized skills the chances of a college dropout finding anything that pays even remotely well are pretty slim. In other words I'd stay in school and hope the employment picture improves.

If you do not have 2 years of college today,or a trade. Do not plan on a prosperous life tomorrow! I seen this in 1969. Till then you could drop out of high school and still get a job. 1970. You best of had a high school diploma. Or made plans to shovel corn,or pluck chickens for a Living. I believe the world is changing again. No college or trade. Well jobs shoveling corn are fast disappearing. And you need computer training just to run the augers, and merchant scales. Good Luck.
Why not finish this semester getting the best marks you can. Then go looking for a job. If after a year you think you're better off, go for it. Personally, I dropped out of university after two years. I went back about five years later. It was a Hell of a lot harder with a wife, a kid and a job to finish my degree but I did. Served me well ever since!
Do you have a job offer? Don't leave college with nothing. If your not motivated to stay for 4 years then only stay for 2 and get your AA but you are more likely to get a good job if you have a college degree. Also the first year is always the worst! next year should be better.
