How can I transter from CSU to UC?

Should I transfer to a UC or CSU?

  • I'm currently going to community college and I'm have a hard time deciding which school I should work up to. I was thinking of transferring to UC Davis but my counselor told me it would take 3 years to transfer out from community college. It would take 2 years or even less to go to a CSU like San Jose State. I really want to be done with college after 4 years and not 5. Is it worthwhile to spend an extra year in CC to go to a UC? I will major in mechanical engineering if that helps.

  • Answer:

What the? No it doesn't take 3 years to transfer. Although it does depend if you want to take 21 units per semester XD I'm currently my first year in a Community College (due to me not affording any colleges) and I've already taken 32 units. I'll have time to spare by the time I make due my applications. I'm majoring in Bio and that takes forever too. Personally I would say - yes. C.C classes aren't as hard as CSU/UC classes. Think about it - no offense to anyone but the GPAs and class averages are a lot lower than UCs not only that professors actually care about you in C.Cs. Whereas in UCs some of the professors just hurry back to their little cubby hole and finish their research papers. But from the bottom of my heart I would NOT want to spend 3 years at a C.C. unless I really HAVE to. But then again my GPA would not die as much.

Do understand that there is no way at a university you can do all the engineering courses in 2 years. Plan on at least 3 years at the university after you transfer. If you wanted to be done engineering in 4 years you should start at the university at a freshman. Regardless, you have to take enough courses to plan to be transferring at the end of the second year at the CC. When I took engineering, we got engineering courses from the second semester of the freshman year. And the load goes up from there. If your CC GPA is not 3.5 or better, you should go to a CSU.
