Student accommodation at York University?

• My best friend and I have agreed that we would like to stay close together when the time comes for University. Obviously this would be possible if we rented a place of our own. However.. I haven't looked into it much yet, but the halls of residence and student accomodation on campus - how does it work? Is it one bed one room per student or can you share with a friend? Ideally we'd both like to share the same room especially if it would reduce cost. If not is there a way to get rooms next to each other or do they assign students to rooms randomly? Thank you.

I always thought York assigned room-mates randomly and it turns out, they do for some people, however you can actually choose to dorm with a friend, if you want. So, yes, you can share with a friend (although it isn't going to reduce any costs - it's only a tiny bit cheaper than getting a single room). "Choosing a roommate In order to be matched with a suitable roommate, the residence application asks very specific questions about your living habits. It is in your best interest to answer these questions fully and honestly. Returning upper year students have priority assignment for single rooms. You can share a room with a friend if you both request each other and include each other’s name and student number on your applications. Every effort will be made to assign both of you the same room or suite.
